About Me:
He directed his first class production "How to Eat Fried Worms" at 8. He made first televised speech at 16. He played Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. at 18. A native of Kansas City, Kansas, Malik Aziz has spent more than half his life in pursuit of his dream. His college education would begin down the road from his hometown. Combining two of his passions, Malik attended the University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor's degree in Film Studies and Afro-American Studies.
Earning acceptance into the University of Southern California, Malik would be introduced to the business aspect of show business. Earning his Master's from the Peter Stark Producing Program, the highlight of Malik's USC education would be pitching a short story written by frequent colloborator Aaron Rahsaan Thomas (NAACP Image Award nominee for Friday Night Lights).
That short story written by Aaron and co-produced by Malik, would be peeping tom. The short film, about a young African-American boy who makes a wish and gets more than he bargained for, would become a crowd favorite on the film festival circuit. Among the awards it recieved: Best College Short Film at the Phoenix Film Festival, Best Short Film at the Atlantic City Film Festival, and Best Short Film at the Hollywood Black Film Festival.
His formal education complete, Malik would start the process of honing his craft with practical experience. Trained as a dramatic actor, Malik would fine tune his comedic skills taking classes with the Groundlings School in Los Angeles. His enhanced improvisational skills would be on full display when he made his first national television appearance on Spike TV's "Ten Things Every Guy Should Experience: the Wrestlemania XX Edition."
Malik's latest film project is named after one of his favorite Michael Jackson songs. Lady In My Life tells the story of a young father and husband, as seen through the eyes of the three women who have shaped him the most: his mother, his wife and his daughter. Early in 2009, Malik shot a short version of his story, which allowed him the opportunity to flex all his creative muscles: actor, writer, director, and producer. The short film has followed in the footsteps of peeping tom and become an audience favorite for festival audiences from coast to coast. Lady In My Life also marked another milestone in Malik’s career when it was featured on the popular BET program, Lens on Talent hosted by Sanaa Lathan. The success and spotlight created by Lady In My Life raised Malik’s exposure and introduced his artistic and personal message to a wider audience. Malik was honored to be one of the inaugural honorees of the group Decade of Light, which focuses on individuals who use their talents to make the world a better place.
Malik is also establishing his presence in new media, writing on his self-titled blog, malikaziz.com. The 25 Most Important Black Film and TV Shows has become a staple of the blog, showing off Malik's love for both black history and films. Updated on a regular basis chronicling his adventures in Los Angeles, the blog has earned a loyal following that continues to grow.
Award winning actor and producer. Accomplished writer and director. While Malik's evolution into adulthood has taken unexpected turns, his passion for his artform is as strong as ever.
