Pan Grilled Catch of the day with Lobster sauce ($11.50) Served with french fries, Pan Grilled Catch of the day is prepared withhome-made lobster sauce. Frankly speaking, the main reason i choosethis dish was because the lobster sauce entices me, and also partlybecause i want some fishy-stuff. But this dish really disappointed me,mayb it is not bad, but it didn’t really suit my taste. The lobstersauce was nothing special, the fish was not really good. It was kind ofbland. Grilled chicken with BBQ sauce ($10.90) The grilled chicken set is served with herb rice and fresh gardensalad. The chicken is actually like normal western cafe chicken chop, nothing special. For a hawker western food, it might be a tad tooexpensive, but for a cafe style dining, i thought the price was quitereasonable. So it’s just which way you see it, if you find itexpensive, go to hawker centre please. Choc Fudge ($4.90) Now, this is where Secret Recipe shines. Desserts, in particular Cakes. The variety of cakes offer are just fantastic. From the must-have likeTiramisu, Black Forest, to their sinfully chocolate section consistingof Choc Chip walnut, Choc Banana, Moist Choc Cake, Choc Mud cake, CocoaMocha, Choc Fudge, Choc Indulgence. Scanning through the long list, each makes me unresistable, wanting to try everyone of them, and ithink i will. Making several trips to Secret Recipe of course : ) Marble Cheese ($4.90) And thats not it, they still have cheesecakes to show, there’s theclassic cheese, espresso cheese, raspberry cheese, choc cheese, chilledblueberry cheese, chilled strawberry cheese, apple crumble cheese, lemon cheese, caramel cream cheese. You know the best part of the story is not just their cakes are good,it is also the price is dirt-cheap. At $4.90 a big slice for theirdelighful cakes, i think its the best deal, and mayb the reason torepeatly go back to Secret Recipe. Nowadays many restaurants’ dessertscakes are no doubt very good, but usually they come in a small slice, and the price can easily double of this. Shining Stars Lets see, the positive aspect without a doubt will be their dessertssection, with cakes being the king of the crown. Cheap, big slice,sinful-yet-wonderful cakes. What more do you want? N’uff said already,go get them! Dark Clouds The waitress told us that they do not serve ice-water. That, immediately took us at least 10 points off the marking list. You mean acafe cannot offer its customer even tap-water? Scanning through thedrinks menu, there is this one thing called “Distilled water”, whatsmore the water is packed by Secret Recipe. No doubt, this is the mainreason why they do not provided ice water. One word of advice to ALLrestaurants and cafes, if you want your diners to eat happily, pleaseprovide FREE ice-water. If your reason not to offer ice water is sothat diners have to pay for the drinks, you are so wrong. All in all, Secret Recipe is still a nice place to go for its cheap andnice cakes. If only for the cakes, i will make the trip everytime.Total bill is $36.55 for two person. I confirmed, guarantee plus chopwill definitely go back to try out the other cakes, despite the problemabout ice-water. Mayb next time i just go for their cake-set, or ibring along my water bottle. Three of us went to Greenwood. its behind NJC. Quite hard to go if you do not drive. The external part of the restaurant does not really have the appeal, like the name implies, Greenwood fish market. It is literally a fishmarket where u can buy their fish, prawn, oyster. But the interior partis diff (see picture) the lights are dim jus nice and its rather small,so make your reservations before going. Greenwood is quite famous for their fish & chips, many types ofdiff fish like snapper, sole filet, salmon, barramundi, tusk fish, yellow fin tuna, nz pink snapper and so on. They also had diff style ofcooking the fish like pan-seared, baked, steamed, char-chilled,battered or crumbed. Cool huh? haha. So we had quite a dilemma inchoosing what fish we wanted. Above picture is battered snapper($19.95)based on recommendation from the enthu staff. Had a hard timeunderstanding the differences between battered and crumbed. Anyway, battered snapper is good and crispy, but have to finish it fast becauseits not so nice when it get cold unlike the crumbed sole filet. Bothfish & chips come with a healthy side serving of chips and vegies. The chips are good, but the vegies are even better. We have no ideawhat they do to the vegies, but it’s really good and you want to havemore. 4.5 out of 5 Next up is crumbed sole filet ($19.95) also on recommendation. By theway, although both chips are diff fish, but i can’t really tell thediff. lol. From what the staff say, you can tell crumbed from batteredbecause crumbed is fried with bread crumb flour. O well, its quite goodalso, but i think snapper is a tiny bit better than the sole filet. 4out of 5 Pasta spag soft shell crab with chili crab sauce ($19.95), unlike thepasta at pastamania, The one here is really pasta. Haha. Soft crab isnice, but too small ! O well. 4 out of 5 Overall good place for fresh fish and seafood, highly recommended justthat it is hard to access if you are not driving. We did not have anydesserts there because we had already decided to head to IslandCreamery for ice cream ! You are always welcome to visit Ladyironchef for a full-up on this trip. “Botak Jones offer authentic American style, restaurant quality food. The food quality is the same or better as any full sevice restaurant.Saying this, it also takes the same amount of time a restaurant takesto prepare your food as all of our food is cooked to order. This meansyour meat doesn’t hit the grill, your fish isn’t fried and your saladisn’t tossed until you placed your order… “ Quoted from the botak jones menu (a long list of menu typed-print inyellow papers). Mister Ang, Mister Ong and me reached the place ataround 130pm, not really a long Q, but can see that most of the peoplein the coffee shop is eating botak jones. Actually we wanted to visitBotak quite a long time ago, but just didn’t had the opportunity, wasalways going to some other places for meal. We waited for about 20 minsor so for the food to come. Botak Jones most popular item, or so they claimed. Premium pacific dory($6) not the cheap cream one (also claimed by them), season the fishand bread it with japanese bread crumb. The servings are generous, withlots of fries and big piece of fish. 4 out of 5 Rosemary lamb chop - medium well ($11) Ordered this because the restorder the other two already, so i though i try something different. Thelamb chop was quite good i suppose, tender, fatty, juicy and delicious. But the price was rather on the high side 4 out of 5 Cajun Chicken ($7) Second most popular item (claimed by Botak), chickenbreast grilled with cheese and toppled with spicy cajun sauce. I thoughthis was pretty good, but then i don’t really fancy chicken breastmeat, prefer the thigh : ) 3.5 out of 5 In conclusion, Botak Jones is the western type of restaurant found inour daily coffee shop, comparing it to restaurant, you will find theprice reasonable cheap, considering it with coffee shop, you will findthe price expensive. Restaurant or coffee shop? Your choice, your call. You are always welcome to visit ladyironchef for a full-up on this trip. Bistro One Zero Three sounds quite interesting right?Being the inquisitive me, i was naturally attracted to the name, andhence the visit to the place. Located at Pasir Panjang, its not a placewhere you’ll imagine a restaurant like Bistro One Zero Three will besituated. Nevertheless, the ‘ulu’ place makes it fun to go to, asthough like we are on a food-hunting trait. Initially we thought it was near the Haw Par Villa area, so we startedlooking for it there, but then how wrong we were, Bistro One Zero Threeis at the other end of Pasir Panjang Road, quite near to PSA Building. If you are going there by train, i suggest stopping at HarbourFront andtake a bus there, its only a couple of bus-stops away fromHarbourFront. The cosy 52 seater bistro is into its tenth-month, and started by theowner Eric, together with his sister and his sister-in-law as the chef.Stepping into Bistro One Zero Three, we felt totally at home, thehomely-wood furniture plays a part, but it is the friendly service ofthe owners who welcomed us enthusiastically, and serving us ice-waterwhile we were going through the menu, that impressed us. The Menu comprises of sandwiches, gourmet salads, some sides, spaghettiand the mains. They are actually in the midst of introducing more itemsto the menu, but meanwhile, this are the options available. Besides dining, Bistro One Zero Three also provides services forbirthday-party events, company functions. The previous night they justhad a event where guests let their hairs down and party till late nightat the bistro. The bistro is a draw for the working crowd duringweekdays, and on fridays & saturdays there are people like you andme who specially visit the place. Well, i like the early-bird feeling, when we got there for a earlylunch, we had the whole place to ourselves, totally like what iexperienced in Sweet Indulgence !Being hungry people, we went through the menu and didn’t have muchproblem ordering the food. My dining companion being a Salmon-lover,naturally she’ll order Pan-fried Salmon. My two other mates had Cajunchicken wrap and Salmon & crab meat spaghetti, while i had thebacon, ham, mushroom spaghetti. Salmon & Crab Meat Spaghetti ($14.50) We began our meal at Bistro One Zero Three with the Salmon & Crabmeat Spaghetti. With two generous piece of salmon on the tomato-basedspaghetti, it got our salivary gland working even before we startedeating! While slurping down the pasta, we can also taste the crab meatwhich goes quite well together. Bacon, Ham & Mushroom Spaghetti ($13.50) There are tomato, carbonara style and aglio olio options to choosefrom, I chose carbonara style since the other spaghetti istomato-based. The carbonara Bacon, Mushroom Spaghetti here at BistroOne Zero Three is slightly different from the usual one you’ll find inother restaurants. Usually the egg in carbonara style will be mixed together and cook withthe heat of the pasta itself, but in this case, the chef put on histhinking cap and played with his creativity by leaving the egg yolk ontop of the pasta. This is a pleasant surprise for us knowing the chefactually put in his heart & soul into making something differentfrom the norm. Well, i’ll preferred the salmon spaghetti to this one, not that this isnot good, but after trying both pasta, we come to a consensus that thetomato-based spaghetti here taste better! Pan-fried Salmon ($16.50) With Balsamic glaze & acompanied with seasonal vegetables, thePan-fried salmon is a must-have for all the salmon-lovers out there.Balsamic dressing is a traditional flavoured vinegar commonly used inItalian cuisine, the Balsamic glaze here added a slight twist ofItaliano to the salmon. Cajun Chicken Wrap ($15.90) Tomato herb Tortilla & Mesclun mix are found inside the CajunChicken Wrap. The chicken wrap does give me an oddly feeling of‘popiah’. The two Cajun chicken wrap serving is rather small, anddefinitely not enough to serve a grown-up (well depending on theappetite also). My mate wasn’t full after he finished it. Warm Brownie w/ French Vanilla ice cream ($5) Who can resist the temptation of desserts after a meal? Not me, thereis always room in my stomach for them! For the record, i love mydesserts more than my main. The warm brownie together with a scoop of the cold ice cream seems to match nicely together. The brownie is not too sweet also. Panna cotta with Mocha ($5) One thing about Bistro One Zero Three is that they currently havelimited desserts selection, only two! So we ordered both the brownieand this one to share. The owners are looking for new additions to thedesserts section, so we had to make do with this two for now. At first glance, we thought that the dessert was a soup, but on secondnote, it was not! Panna Cotta is actually an Italian Dessert made bysimmering together cream, milk and sugar, mixing this with gelatin, andletting it cool until set. Panna Cotta is usually eaten plained or sweetened with vanilla, chocolate or fruits. But the one we had at Bistro One Zero Three gave adifferent twist by adding Mocha to flavoured the dessert. Total bill for 4 person (4 mains & 2 desserts)adds up to $82.86 (including GST & service charge). Overall theexperience at Bistro One Zero Three is a positive one, and its a goodplace to chill out & dine with your friends. The place isn’t reallyinaccessible if you know where it is, just a few bus-stops away fromHarbourfront. And the cozy environment and friendly service from theboss definitely makes it a plus for a revisit, but they need to work ontheir desserts selections if they are to satisfy my desserts-demand. You are always welcome to visit ladyironchef for a full-up on this trip. Whatever written above are my geniunefeelings expressed in words that may be subjected to my personaldistortion or bias. Please do not feel emotional or distress should youhave any violent objections. Kindly click the little X at the upper, extreme right of your screen if negative adjectives would be derived.Otherwise, feel free to furnish me with comments, may it be positive ornegative : ) “ Who say guys don’t like their desserts? I do! ”

25th May '08 It's one of the few times that we go to vivo, and we've decided to dine at some health concious and affordable restaurant. Chooby was my Food Kaki that day. Looked around vivo and doc green's is what we've found. haha. It portrays to us a very healthy concept, probably because it's green colour theme. lol. I could still remember the restaurant and it wasn't very crowded at the time of visit. Only 3 tables were sitted if I didn't remember wrongly. Service was like normal, like any other restaurant. Not much to comment on.. Ambience wise it's still not bad. Giving a soothing feel. It's a good place to chill and have dinner especially at the hour of our visit. To the side of our table, outside the glass panel was the children's playground =) haha. So if you're a kid lover like me. It would be a nice place to observe these small little things run around. Food was quite nice actually. We ordered Mushroom Soup - Bread Bowl ( $6.90 ), Half Italian Roast Chicken ( $16.90 ) and Char Grilled Salmon ( $19.90 ), where both mains were served with Dr. Fruitty Salad . I had the roast chicken, it was tender and juicy. The best part was the salad. The salad vegetables tasted like nothing i had before. All of them were smeared in layer of coating that tasted like mandarin orange, made the leaf looks glossy and attractive. Oh. and the small oranges were very sweet as well. =)) The only concern is that the price is slightly steeper than usual. But it's definitely worth the try if u haven't got your mouth on it yet. =)
