Anvil! The Story of Anvil

Anvil! The Story of Anvil - Directed by Sacha Gervasi - Not Rated Anvil is the Kurgan's kind of music. Anvil was a heavy metal band from the early '80s that debuted with the likes of Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, and Megadeth, but never reached the aforementioned bands' level of fame. This documentary asks why. If you're into '80s metal music and you've heard Anvil, you'd wonder why as well. The thing is that even though Anvil never hit it big, the two founding members, lead guitarist/singer Lips and drummer Robb Reiner, are still at it, trying to keep the dream alive. That's really the theme behind this documentary: keeping the dream alive. Lips and Robb may fight and quit here and there, but they are in it for the long run. Even though they sometimes play shows with less than a dozen people at them, or they can't get proper transportation for their tour, they still keep at it and tend to stay upbeat as well. You can't help but like Lips and Robb and while it can be...

Anvil: Three-Chord Fantasy

Anvil’s career has the buoyancy of its namesake; their music is like pounding on the fragile incus. But founding members guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner never abandon their dream of being Rock Stars by forging their hammer-and-tongs music, where the screaming power chords and thumping rhythms are contradictions of their angst and gentle humanity. Director Sacha Gervasi’s documentary seems to be more SPINAL TAP than the faux Rockumentary, but here he is interested in depicting the real people behind the music: not a parody of an excess rock’n roll lifestyle. The film begins with Anvil’s world tour in the 80’s opening for acts like Metallica, Bon Jovi and Anthrax, and then the band receives accolades from talking heads such as Slash, Lemmy, and Lars Ulrich. CUT TO : present day reality where Lips is driving a delivery van, an average working guy with hairnet and gloves, but he dreams big and lives for the day Anvil...

Anvil: The Story of Anvil

Director: Sacha Gervasi This is an amazing rock documentary that ranks with some of the best. This real life "This Is Spinal Tap" would be a great double feature with that classic. This is the story of the early 80's heavy metal band Anvil. The documentary crew tries to track down the band in present day. They were going to be a major success but life took over and the band tries to make a comeback. What you have here are two of the most memorable movie subjects you will ever see in band members Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner. This is an amazing story of the rise, fall and then again rise to rock stardom. This movie is very funny, entertaining with good music and is suprisingly deep and touching. The life struggles and rocky road to success depicted here is a lot of fun to watch and very powerful.

Anvil! The Story of Anvil — 5

This movie was supposed to be another rockumockumentary, in the fashion of This Is Spinal Tap. However i found myself insanely interested in about the first 30 minutes or so of the movie, it was actually entertaining. It told the story of how a bunch of bands went on a huge concert tour to Japan and every band made millions of record sales and became huge, except one, Anvil. It then went on the tell to modern day story of Anvil of how the 2 original band members just are regular Joes who actually have real jobs despite them being in a band still. they have to make a living because since they didn’t make it big, and they do so by having crappy jobs. hey still play shows and venues whenever they can actually get a gig, but mostly they are in Europe since apparently Europe is the place to be if you are into Metal. Once they started going on the tour, you actually felt sad for the guys, trying to had for so long and not making it. I found nothing homourous in this movie...
