AwakeNone of us like hospitals I guess. We all try to avoid them as much as possible and only if we really have to, we go there. But if we must, we must and there’s nothing we can do about it, just a short stop, a little fix and hopefully off we go back home to our little bubble we call life, thankful everything went ok.
Hayden Christensen plays Clay Beresford, a young man who has it all. He is rich and wealthy, has a beautiful girl by his side (Jessica Alba) and one disadvantage. His heart is weak and bad and he has to go an operation. Nothing to worry about, he is in good hands and this operation will save his life. Just one shot and off to sleep he goes, when he wakes up he’s a new man with a new heart and all he had to do was sleep in that operation table and feel nothing. Well, guess again. The operation does take place, Clay does get his shot but he does not fall asleep. He suffers "anesthetic awareness" that makes him paralyzed through the whole operation as he can’t move a muscle, can’t talk, can’t blink, can’t deliver any sign to his doctors that he is still awake…and can feel the pain and every second of that operation.
This is a good film. You can actually feel Clay’s pain and hurting through the screen as they cut into him, his screams and tears (in his mind) of fear and pain truly shiver through our bodies as we feel sorry for what this young man has to suffer…and all he needed to do was fall asleep, something that didn’t happen and now this operation is a living hell and a total nightmare as he feels every cut over his body.
But there’s more to this film. The plot is easy and understood but there’s more than just this operation and you’ll find out during the film. Things are about to get more complex as the operation progresses and new information will be revealed from Clay’s life and his surrounding.
All in all, a good film worth watching, be strong during the operation…
