Out of the several Nazi sexploitation films I have seen, this one was  the first I’ve seen and so far remains my favorite. A title card before  the feature begins says it is based on documented fact and that the  characters depicted in it are composites of notorious Nazi  personalities.

Fraulein doctor kommandant Ilsa is the head of Camp 9, which stands as a  “medical research facility”. The noble Ilsa, a true feminist at heart,  wants to prove to the Reich’s top brass that women are equal, if not  superior to men, and that they should be allowed to serve as soldiers in  the frontline. Her methods are simple – inflict as much pain as  possible to the female prisoners of the camp in a variety of “medical  experiments”, such as – but not limited to – being boiled alive, being  crushed in a pressure chamber, being electrocuted with a electric dildo,  lashed to death, having your toes gnawed away or eyes cut out. Fraulein  Ilsa is also a sex fiend. Every now and again she sends for one of the  male prisoners to fuck her, but most importantly, to satisfy her. If  they fail, it’s chop-chop and goodbye manhood. That is why the camp’s  full of cockless prisoners.

All this is about to change when Wolfe arrives with the newest batch of  prisoners. Wolfe, a German born American student is a freak of nature,  having probably the one “superpower” every man on Earth would wish for –  he can hold back for as long as he likes. Ilsa is astonished, and puts  Wolfe to many tests like an all-night marathon, a threesome and more,  which he passes with flying colors. Soon, Ilsa becomes dependant of  Wolfe’s manly prowess, while he and the prisoners forge an escape plan.

What makes “Ilsa, she Wolf of the SS”, stand above the rest? First off,  it’s the quality of the production. Now, take that with a grain of salt,  but compared to other entries in the genre, this is top quality  material. From today's standards it all looks fake (this is from 1975),  but rest assured the torture scenes look quite grisly and will make you  feel a bit queasy.


Talking about the story, pacing and length, I can’t really say why  “Ilsa” surpasses others. I mean, all Nazi exploitation flicks are the  same – a mix of softcore pornography, torture scenes and the combination  of the two. “Ilsa” is no different. And yet, it is somehow better than  the rest. Maybe that’s why it spawned three sequels.

The titular character is played by the very gifted, in terms of  cleavage, Dyanne Thorne. She really has huge boobs. And her performance  is pretty convincing as the stern and inscrutable kommandant. Wolfe, the  American who saves the day is played by Gregory Knoph. Wolfe… talk  about cheesy.


Well, I don’t suppose you’ll pick this to be your film for an evening with the family. Actually, you probably won’t pick it at all, if not out of sheer curiosity. That’s how I came across it two years back when Rodriguez and Tarantino’s “Grindhouse” got me interested in the genre. Now I can’t say Nazisploitation is something I’m crazy about. Truth is, once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. So with that being said, why not see the best one?
