Cold Prey

So, I’ve heard mostly positive things about this Norwegian slasher horror. On many message boards there’s talk like: “This is how you make a proper horror, not like all that American shit!” Well, cock it. If a film is European doesn’t actually mean it is better. “Cold Prey” (original title: “Fritt Vilt”) is just another slasher, nothing more, nothing less.

Well, some differences from the mainstream American horrors are visible. First of all, there is not much blood or gore throughout the film. There also aren’t any really annoying and stereotypical characters (well, at least not to the usual extent) – you don’t have common type cast of the Jock, the Geek, the Ho, the Smarty, and the Black Guy Who Dies First. All are more or less normal looking guys and girls, and as I said – they won’t get on your nerves. There's also no sex or nudity! Maybe because it's cold there... The music you mostly hear in films like this are some “groovy” songs from oh-so-popular modern punk/rock bands – that’s shit. Instead, in “Cold Prey” we got a nice score music which is certainly more to my liking. I also have to mention that the first 10 minutes features some great snow scenery. Quite beautiful, actually.

The story is pretty unoriginal – a group of 5 extreme sports enthusiasts, Jannicke, Morten Tobias, Eirik, Mikal and Ingunn, arrive in Jotunheimen. Morten Tobias breaks a leg, the sun is setting down so they have to find some shelter because they won’t make it back to their car in time. So they find a nice, little abandoned hotel (coincidence, coincidence), which turns out that it isn’t as abandoned as they thought.

Jannicke is played by the awesome Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, who reminded me of (even a little in appearance, the face expressions mostly) of the ultimate badass woman in history - Sigourney Weaver, i.e. Ellen Ripley

And that’s it. “Cold Prey” isn’t as special as I was led to believe, but it was fun.
