Match Point

Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays Chris Wilton, an Irish social climber who befriends the son of a wealthy Englishman,Tom Hewitt (Matthew Goode), and ends up marrying his sister, Chloe (Emily Mortimer). Unknown to her, Chris had a one-time secret affair with Tom’s then alluring fiancee, Nola Rice (Scarlett Johansson) but she left town after Tom broke up with her. One day, Chris bumps into her at an art gallery and the two rekindles thier perilous affair.

There isn’t a single good character in this movie but they are all believable. Probably because the casting is great. Jonathan Rhys Meyers shows off his lethal charm and Scarlett Johansson is dangerously luscious. Mathew Goode, Emily Mortimer and Brian Cox are notable too.
Woody Allen has his way of poking audiences’ emotions. At one point he lifts me up then the next thing I know he slams me down. I was so angry after watching this movie I needed to watch another movie to make me forget it was just a movie, not reality. What a smart ass he is.

If you hate to be left with frustration, don’t watch this. But if you think you can handle it, you should see it.

“The man who said ‘I’d rather be lucky than good’ saw deeply into life. People are afraid to face how great a part of life is dependent on luck. It’s scary to think so much is out of one’s control. There are moments in a match when the ball hits the top of the net, and for a split second it can either go forward or fall back. With a little luck, it goes forward and you win…or maybe it doesn’t, and you lose.”
