Ghost Town - Bullet Review

The only good thing about this film is the location where its filmed. Its only funny in parts. Like parts with the dog in i, it really shouldnt come down to that and its the lowest form of wit. I still love Gervais and Ivey though, its really not their fault the script is bad.

Ghost Town

Yet another New York fairy tale, trying to get us to believe that Manhattan is filled with exclusively lovely people and ghosts, except, perhaps, for the dentist Ricky Gervais (the Brit we frowned upon recently, in "A Night At the Museum") mimics so superbly that you can even watch this film twice and still laugh at his antics. Another one for Enneagram freaks: This dude's a fairly obvious FIVE on his way to redemption via the path of love. Thoroughly enjoyable.

GHOST TOWN (2008)

BOTTOM LINE: Although billed as a comedy, “Ghost Town” is more a light-hearted character drama which may disappoint those looking for more from Ricky Gervais who puts in an understated performance in this talky and slower-paced film. THE GOOD: What makes “Ghost Town” a different take on the usual for the genre is that the ‘ghost’ idea is merely a device to set up interactions between selfish dentist Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais) and his unwelcome encounters with people, dead or alive. Learning that he died for seven minutes after a routine operation, Pincus suddenly finds himself with the ability to see dead people… and they annoy him. Predictably, this leads to some funny situations, such as the naked ghost sitting beside his bed while he sleeps, or the ethnic mob guy who wants him to do a hit on someone he dislikes. Ultimately, Pincus has most of his encounters with a ghost who was also a formerly selfish man in Frank (Greg...

Moon Minis - Ghost Town

Ricky Gervais headlines this overly long comedy about an uncaring man (Pincus) who just needs someone to love - and he gets that chance when his colonoscopy sends him to the dead zone and back to the living world, allowing him to see ghosts. Greg Kinnear co-stars as Frank, a recently deceased man trying to break up his wife's (Téa Leoni relationship with a man who he feels is trying to steal her money. Full of awkward moments thanks to Gervais' dialogue, Ghost Town is frequently funny and genuinely good-natured, but the plot doesn't stand out from the pack and the film runs tediously long through its final scenes. Kinnear's character is more an annoyance than good, and at times the film's pacing slows down the entirety of the romance. The finale tells us exactly what we were thinking from the beginning: Gervais' character needs to listen to everyone, especially the ghosts - not exactly a stunning revelation for those of us accustomed to the ghost-listener films and...
