The Gist

After witnessing a few kids being bullied at a baseball field, Rob Schneider and his two nerdy pals, John Heder and David Spade are three geeks who try their hands on baseball to get back at the bullies. For doing that, they become idols to nerds everywhere. This movie is really about standing up against bullies.

What Do I Think?

Before this, Schneider had appeared in mostly weirdo movies like Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, The Hot Chick and The Animal. Though I enjoyed watching him acting goofy and all, I always wanted to see him do something different, something more heroic. Then came The Benchwarmers! The secret wish came true and this movie, it works for him! I think he's taking the Adam Sandler path: from weirdo to hero.

Speaking of Sandler, this is a Happy Madison movie. It has all the qualities you can find in his movies, namely The Longest Yard, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, Mr Deeds and 50 First Dates. Like Stephen Chow's movies, Sandler uses the same supporting actors in almost every movie he produces. I don't really mind because they are fun to watch. The jokes projected have similar themes and contents too. But it's what Happy Madison studiosdo best: create a simple plot about losers that are really lovable, throw in some moral values, have some impossible hot chicks that seem to always be crazily in love with the geeks, bring you hope when feel like there is none and most importantly push in the jokes and fun to the max!

David Spade and John Heder serve as great sidekicks in the film. Plus, there are other supporting actors like John Lovitz, Kitt from Knightrider and Reggie Jackson, the famous baseball legend.

Why Watch This?

If you're tired of formulaic Hollywood blockbusters this summer (hey Benchwarmers is formulaic too! But fun!) , and if you don't want another explosion, some tough sadistic baddie and Tom Cruise, just leave your brains at home, go to the cinemas, get tickets for this, sit back and relax. It will guarantee you smiles when you leave the cinema. Brings you hope too, if you were bullied as a kid. Or even still being bullied as an adult. 'Nuff said, go now!

7/10. Heck, it's higher than X-Men! But I enjoyed this more than X-Men!
