Non-stop roller coaster’s worth of eye candy, fast cars, good looking people and the beautiful backdrop of Tokyo City.

The Gist

After a series of high school delinquencies, Lucas Black is sent to live with his father in Tokyo. He goes car racing again and discovers a whole new game in it: Drifting. The rest of the story doesn’t matter. Just expect lots of nice cars and beautiful babes.

What do I think?

Prior to watching this, I was thinking that the Too Fast Too Furious wasn’t necessary. Part 3 now? Ok. I’m going into the cinema with absolutely zero expectations. Wait, I’ve seen this before right? Oh yeah, that Jay Chou silver screen vehicle (don’t pardon the pun) Initial D. Let’s see, there’s this blur kid that doesn’t really know how to drift. Father is kind of useless but in the end provides the pivotal support to a happy ending. Others use brand new Evos, Mustangs, Skylines, Fairladys, RX7s and RX8s. The main character uses an old modified junk. Racing on mountains. Foreigners / Gaijins acting like they are local in Japan. A dorky supporting actor who provides the comic relief. A Chinese director.

Ok, those were where the similarities end. I have to make sure I wasn’t reviewing Initial D!

In TFATF:TD, the producers get a higher budget to play with. Things get more realistic as compared to the comic book adaptation Initial D. You get to see and perhaps learn how to drift in this film. More importantly we are taught that people die in illegal racing. (These Hollywood fellas never forget about moral values) The camera angles were very well planned to enhance the visuals of racing and drifting. Story wise, it was built up of excuses of having the reason to race.
