Blade Runner (1982) * Top Pick *

For a film globetrotter like me, It's nice to come home sometimes...   Genre: Drama Sci-Fi Thriller Noir   Starring: Harrison Ford (Regarding Henry • American Graffiti), Rutger Hauer ( Sin City  • Batman Begins ) Directed By: Ridley Scott (Gladiator • Alien) Overview: Early in the 21st Century, THE TYRELL CORPORATION advanced robot evolution into the NEXUS phase - a being virtually identical to a human - known as a Replicant. The NEXUS 6 Replicants were superior in strength and agility, and at least equal in intelligence, to the genetic engineers who created them. Replicants were used Off-World as slave labor, in the hazardous exploration and colonization of other planets. After a bloody mutiny by a NEXUS 6 combat team in an Off-World colony, Replicants were declared illegal on earth - under penalty of death. Special police squads - BLADE RUNNER UNITS - had orders to shoot to kill, upon detection, any trespassing Replicant....

Bladerunner

Although I wouldn't necessarily recommend this movie to the fainthearted, especially because of one gross scene, I have to mention this Sci-Fi classic as one of those that had quite an impact on me. Portraying probably one of the darkest Endtime scenarios ever to hit the screen, having watched this movie in a cinema in the early 80s, way before "Matrix" or even "Terminator" came out, this movie actually made me so very thnakful for the reality of the times we were (and still are, thank God) currently living in. Things could always be worse, and if nothing else, "Bladerunner" will certainly make you appreciate that. Apart from that, it has to be said in favor of the movie that it's absolutely not boring, but has one of those plots that will keep a Sci-Fi fan on the eadge of his seat.

Blade Runner

Is a movie great if it looks great? There aren’t many great movies that don’t look great, but how much wrong-decision do good looks buy?Blade Runner is known as a great movie predominately because it invented a look for the future. And no question, it has to be the best looking sci-fi movie of all time. But y’know, there’s a lot about Blade Runner that doesn’t work. I know it might be heresy to say this but… the love story sucks, the pacing is off, and Sean Young is robotic, even for a robot. So are good looks enough? I think of Wong Kar Wai’s 2046(another handsome, robots and cigarettes movie). My god I hated2046. Is Blade Runner any better? In the year 2019 (as imagined from 1982, and even then – they were reaching) mankind has largely decamped Earth and robots are used as slave labour. For reasons that are never entirely explained: robots live only four years; are forbidden from setting foot...

Blade Runner: Director's Cut

Now, be sure to note that what I am reviewing is the Director's Cut of this cult classic. I haven't seen the original version where Harrison Ford narrates and it ends on a happier note, so if what I'm saying doesn't coincide with what you saw, that's probably why. I find it funny that Harrison Ford was like the go-to guy for science fiction movies back in the day. Star Wars, Blade Runner, and I'd even go so far as to say Indiana Jones. Yeah, I guess he was quite the handsome lad. I'm sure a lot of people liked to see him run around shooting guns, all wet and bleeding. But I'm still not sure if I enjoyed this movie. I'm leaning towards a no, actually. The cinematography was amazing, especially for 1980s, but still, I'm no sci-fi fan. I really don't like Star Wars or anything like that. I had to watch this movie for my film class, and I was supposed to be looking for cinematography stuff, so I might be a little biased there. Yet I really think the movie is cluttered. I say this...
