Hell Comes to Frogtown

“Hell Comes to Frogtown” is the one of those older films, despite looking cheap, being cheap and naïve and cheesy - they are simply awesome and fun as hell! That’s the joke. Now laugh.

When you’ve done laughing please continue reading. Rowdy Roddy Piper plays Sam Hell, the only fertile man on the planet devastated by nuclear war(s). Now, Med Tech, upon discovering that Hell carries “a loaded weapon”, put him on a secret government assignment – to fuck for freedom! But first, he has to save a bunch of fertile ladies held captive by the evil mutant frog Toty, the ruler of Frogtown. And then fuck them. Hell is not alone – Cpl. Centinella and nurse Spangle (Sandahl Bergman) are here to aid him in his noble endeavor. Not that he has much choice, considering his cock is rigged with government explosives.

Like I said before, “Hell Comes to Frogtown” is vintage cheesy B-cinema, kind of a humorous take on “Mad Max”, perhaps. What makes it work are the performances and the atmosphere it has – a totally lightweight, undemanding and upbeat feel that’ll surely cheer you up. When I mentioned the performances, I didn’t mean good acting. Roddy Piper is a walking generic one-liner dispenser. And manly as fuck! He has a screen charisma that makes up for his lack of acting skills. And to prove how ballsy he is, a Med Tech nurse refers to him as “leaving a string of pregnancies everywhere he’s been”, the remark being followed by Hell's big smirk. Sandahl Bergman, most notable for being Valeria, Arnie’s first on-screen love in “Conan the Barbarian”, also put a great show and truth to be told, she’s maybe the only one who can really act. Last but not least, there’s Will Smith. This Will Smith, who is way manlier than this one. Chances are you won’t remember his face, but his raspy voice is one you don’t forget. Nevertheless, he starred in a bunch of manly movies, and he is also Conan's father.

Despite being old and cheap, this flick doesn't show its age very much. The wasteland that is the post apocalyptic world is convincing, and even the frog costumes are decent. There's also a small amount of gratuitous nudity.

“Hell Comes to Frogtown” is a great action und comedy film, which you mustn’t take seriously in order to enjoy it. Eat lead, froggies!
