Electric Dragon 80000V

Tadanobu Asano is “Dragon Eye” Morrison, a friend of electricity and lizards. He’s got a guitar and 80000V. Masatoshi Nagase is Thunderbolt Buddha, and he just exists. He is also a friend of electricity, but not lizards. He’s got 20 million V. And he wants to make Morrison angry.

Does this sound like total nonsense? Yeah? Well the whole film is nonsense, from start to finish. It’s supposed to be a surreal, art film of some sort. It’s even filmed in black and white to prove it. The absurdity of it does not bother me. I’ve seen plenty of silly, wacky, absurd films and loved them. But you gotta draw a line somewhere. Even the nonsense must have some sense. And “Electric Dragon 80000 V” does not.

The only good thing about it is that it’s relatively short – only 55 minutes. Still, I barely managed to make it to the end. I’m not kidding. Halfway through I got a sudden, very powerful urge to turn it off, and that rarely happens. And I've really tried to like it...

Maybe some of you might enjoy it. To me it is nothing more than a random series of incoherent garbage.
