More fantastical than anything is that so many people my age have never even HEARD of this. Genre: Action Adventure Sci-Fi Thriller (USA, Taiwan) Starring: Jeff Bridges (Arlington Road; The Big Lebowski ), Bruce Boxleitner (The Babe; Kuffs) Directed By: Steven Lisberger Overview: In search for proof that the mighty corporation has stolen his game ideas, our hero hacks into the CPU. Said CPU hacks back, digitizing him and sending him to it's vast computer universe. Performance: Fine, fine. Even I'll admit it, it's better than bad but it's not great, alright? But at the same time that User scream of "Noooo!!!" in that first game was still a very amusing moment. Admittedly there is a touch of melodramatic 80s to it, and even in context it's not fantastic, but really, get over it and enjoy the rest of the overall brilliance of this terrific show of innovation. Rating: 6 Cinematography: Scenes shot covered in reflective tape, hours upon hours of individually hand-painted...

The Disney Sci Fi round of the Jeff Bridges vs Kurt Russell Grudge Match starts with Jeff Bridges as the world's best computer programmer in Tron . When we first see Mr. Bridges, who's like 30 in this movie, he's sort of like a rock n' roll 4-bit gamer nerd that owns an arcade -- which is where your mommies and daddies went to play "Call of Duty" when it was called "Gauntlet". Jeff is pulling an immediate McConaughey vibe as Flynn the only cool guy in the movie because he doesn't where glasses. SY found him immediately attractive, and I can't argue with his laid back rugged manliness, even if he is playing King Dork. After a while, I realized that the super-midi synthesized score (mixed with the CGI that is no where near as good as the bee from those crappy Flo-Nase commercials) was giving me a headache. But, your hero, Ruben, Potato of the Floating Red Couch, powered through and watched the blue guy throw a frisbee into the giant conical, red...

After watching the trailer of "Tron Legacy", we were sparked to watch and review "Tron" - Tron Legacy's 27 year old dad. "Tron" in 1982 was a marvel to behold with it being one of the first films to highly use computer graphics for special effects. In fact, "Tron" was disqualified in the best special effects nomination because the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) deemed using computers a form of cheating - Funny right? Anyway, can "Tron" still bedazzle us almost three decades after its innovative release? "Tron" stars Kevin Flynn(Jeff Bridges) who is a former employee of ENCOM. Kevin is trying to hack into ENCOM's system to find evidence of Ed Dillinger(David Warner) stealing his five games. These five games have catapulted ENCOM and Ed Dillinger to great heights. Unfortunately, due to Kevin's actions, Alan Bradley(Bruce Boxleitner) has lost access to his program named Tron. Kevin, Alan and Lora Baines(Cindy Morgan) have entered the ENCOM premises to gain fake...

One night around '82 I went to see this movie with a friend in Buenos Aíres, and when we got out of the thatre we felt like on an acid trip. Being the first of its kind and a pioneer of a genre, even before the technology that would eventually make the whole genre even possible, this movie not only has a fairly decent plot for 80s, but also a good message about an evil computer program usurping the system, which has to be resisted, eliminated and replaced. The DVD features some extras that show just what a feat and pioneer effort this movie really was for its time.
