I found this on my computer. It's not very good, but it has some support for the score. CLOVERFIELD On July 2 nd , 2007, a trailer with only a release date debuted. It showed partygoers viewing an explosion, and the statue of liberty’s head rolling in a street at the bottom of someone’s apartment building. That was the start of the 1-18-08 (now known as Cloverfield) craziness. The title wasn’t known until the second trailer, which was shown before Beowulf . Ever since, crazy ideas, fake trailers, and basically one big question ruled the ‘net. As soon as I saw the first trailer, back in July, I was hooked. The movie begins with a government declaration of the footage being genuine. Some friends are having a going away party for Rob, who’s taken a job in Japan. Beth, Marlena, Lily, Jason (Rob’s brother), and Hud, the cameraman of sorts, are some of his closest friends. The party is going fine until an...

If you guys are still in the dark about the film, Cloverfield is about a giant monster attacking Manhattan all seen through the lens of a very very very durable hand-held camera with amazing battery life. Finally watching my cousin play Counter Strike actually proved useful for this one because of the shaky quality of the video which may give you motion sickness so be warned! But in my opinion, telling a story through a first-person's point of view is probably the most brilliant idea in movie making because it plunges you directly into the scene of the film; like you are actually in it. Yeah you may get sick but you'll get used to it. Think The Blair Witch Project and Godzilla and you will get Cloverfield. This film has been hyped for a few months via viral market and by speculations of the monster itself. And did it live up to it's hype? My answer is OH GOD YES! I don't watch a lot of monster films but Cloverfield is by far the most intense monster film I have...

What Hiroshima was to Godzilla, 9/11 is to Cloverfield. They’re both about catharsis. I grant you, it’s catharsis of the hinky sort. Each takes the greatest horror its people have ever experienced and makes a monster movie out of it – but y’know, we’re not in ancient Greece anymore. No one’s going to write an Odyssey about our troubles. Today, when bad things happen, we call Jerry Bruckheimer for catharsis, not Euripides. Movies like United 93 and World Trade Centremight want to be America’s response to 9/11, but the real response isCloverfield. Some real events are so fantastical you need the fantastical to talk about them. And to claim them back. You may have heard about Cloverfield’s selling point. If not, think: Blair Witch. Like The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield is shot in shaky-vision. It looks like a caffeinated war report. Its camera is never still. At the start of the movie...

BACK COVER SYNOPSIS: From visionary producer J.J. Abrams and director Matt Reeves comes the worldwide sensation of nonstop terror and suspense everyone is talking about. FILM REVIEW: “Cloverfield” is one of those movies that hits the monster-movie genre mark on the head, providing escapist fun and thrills, but managing to do it in a very unique style by utilising the “Blair-Witch” home video technique to tell the story (but doing it much better than “Blair-Witch”). In this film, a monster the size of the Empire State Building terrorises New York City, destroying everything in its path. As a growing battle ensures between the monster and the army, a small group of New Yorkers, who just happen to have a handicam with them, document the whole incident from their point of view as they try to escape the bedlam. The film is a lot of fun, and although it does not always believably work, the unique style in which it is shot combined with the...

BOTTOM LINE: It's the Blair-Witch version of Godzilla - ridiculous in many parts but very cool and unlike 'Blair Witch', this film actually pays off on its premise. THE GOOD: Hollywood finally gets to do their own 'Blair Witch' and surprisingly, 'Cloverfield' is superior to the film it draws so heavily from, at least in style. 'Blair Witch' didn't really have a pay-off (ie the threat was always suggested, never revealed). 'Cloverfield' doesn't show the monsters much but at the right moments, it shows the monsters in dramatic style. The main monster itself is ridiculous but because the camera work is so shaky you don't really notice and is actually quite nasty and scary in some moments. The story is by and large irrelevant - this film is all about mayhem and destruction and the film doesn't disappoint. After getting an introduction to the characters, the first attack scene comes out of nowhere and is one of the coolest you're likely to see, with the head of the Statue of...

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see a city get destroyed from a first person point of view? Well then today is your lucky day. Cloverfield is just like any other generic monster movie in creation, with a bit of a twist. The entire action is seen from the view of a handicam recorder. It is this cheap gimmick that actually gives this movie a one up over other films of the genre. As far as the plot goes, there is a monster attacking New York City and we get to follow a small group of friends who are trying to escape. There's also a love story thrown in just to give the movie some substance. Didn't I say it was generic? In the movie we see a lot of the same old, same old. People die, people are crying, more people die, the military comes, even more die, so on and so forth. But due to the cunning mind of JJ Abrams, all of these things are seen in an unchartered way with the use of a handicam. It is this strategem that manages to pull the viewer into New York City and truly...
