Film Review: CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY (2009)

RATING 7.5/10 BOTTOM LINE: Engaging as always, if not as feisty, Michael Moore delivers another biased and heavily opinionated commentary, this time on capitalism, and manages to deliver some insightful food for thought, even if it does not always stand up under scrutiny. THE GOOD: Michael Moore has made an entire sub-genre for himself of heavily opinionated and biased political commentary on various issues affecting American society and culture. In “Capitalism: A Love Story”, Moore takes aim at the system that brought America to its knees during the global financial crisis by tracing it back to its origins and the insidious ways those with power have been tricking those without to keep them in power. Moore is surprisingly restrained in his anger this time out. Although he does not hold back a punch, he does construct sequences that have a slower and more subtle build, which in many instances, have a stronger effect than say any scene from “Fahrenheit...

Michael Moore Redeems Himself With "Captialism: A Love Story"

Over the past few years, Michael Moore has lost some of his credibility from among members of what is coming to be known as the "Truth Movement," either for watering down the shocking truths that are really behind the absurdities we're being fed as "news" since 9/11, or for his attempt at commercialization of the movement. After all, while Internet guerrillas like Alex Jones and Paul Watson spread the same message and use the same methods Moore copies without making a big buck at any box office, and while they totally oppose the coming of the New World Order (as futile as that opposition may be), Michael Moore wants to usher the "Gap Nations" (NWO term for any country currently still outside of the frame of the wonderful world of the Coca Cola and McDonalds & Co. empires) "gently" into the New World Order, as he states in his book, "Stupid White Men."   Whether he is simply smarter or greedier than Alex Jones and the likes or not may be another question, but fact is, Moore's...

CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY

And Jesus says: "I cannot heal you my son...you have a pre-existing condition." That's just one of many hilarious scenes in Michael Moore's latest offering -- CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY. Although most reviewers refer to Moore's films as documentaries, they are clearly more one man's one-sided point of view regarding serious issues in contemporary America. If you have ever spent a couple of hours (or more) listening to folks like Limbaugh, Hannity or Beck, Needtovent strongly recommends you give Michael Moore 120 minutes of your time as well. We are confident that you will walk away from the theater entertained, enlightened and, most likely, infuriated as Hell. CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY is probably Moore's best film to date -- it is certainly his most personal since ROGER & ME. And although he continues to use a scattershot approach, the enormous size and complexity of the subject matter this time around actually lends itself to his style of filmmaking. Among the multitude of...

Booze Revooze: A Drinker’s Skewed Review of CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY

Ramblings: Capitalism : A ‘Like  You A Lot’ Story Final Proof:  3 Shots Have you ever drunk with a true believer. Doesn’t have to be a religious guy, even if they’re fun to make fun of and make you feel better about your intellect in debates.  Nah, i’m talking about anyone who truly believes anything down to his freaking core. It’s a touchy call because sometimes you get the obnoxious kind who starts yelling from the get-go and is so far up in your face that his beer spittle showers your stash and lashes.  Go ahead and try to inject a counter argument and you’ll get more than spit because he’ll throw his entire drink all over you and then you have to charge him with alcohol abuse. The other kind of believer still showers you with his spit but at least he’ll laugh while he does it. He won’t listen to your arguments any more than the first kind but...

Capitalism: A Love Story

So Michael Moore doesn't seem to have the same pull as he used to does he? Capitalism: A Love Story managed to pull only 5 screens across the entirety of London, and four of those were indie cinemas, so its safe to say Moore isn't going to be blowing the same amount of complacent minds as he once does. Did we tire of his smugness, or his methods? Or are his movies just getting worse? Well, while its undeniable that Moore loves getting up on his soapbox so he can shout it, it doesn't necessarily mean that he's wrong, or that it is any less revelatory. I'm a liberal, don't get me wrong, but I tire of my ideological kin sometimes. With Moore, it is us, who all think that he is right, that have fucked him over. We don't like that he's abrupt, we don't like his directness, or lack of nuance. And for the liberal media, this matters more then you can know. It doesn't matter that he's pretty much the only prominent liberal film-maker that people actually listen to, or that F911...

Capitalism: A Love Story: Greed ain't good

She laughed. She cried. She cursed like only a slut can do. Michael Moore had the Movie Slut right where he wanted her: Sitting in a seat in her local multiplex bowled over (not a reference to "Bowling for Columbine") by his latest documentary. Okay, so she knows he's a spinmeister. And he's been known to play loose and free with the facts. And sure, he's a Drama King, who'll stop at nothing to inject a punch of vitality to his flicks. Still, anyone who's been on this planet in the last year knows his central thesis is correct. Capitalism caught a crummy bug and has spread it to the rest of us. The Movie Slut was engrossed every second of this movie but still has a quibble with the title. As Moore himself points out, Capitalism was chugging along beautifully until the greedy 1980s rolled around. (Check out "Wall Street" with Michael Douglas if you need a reminder.) So, isn't it greed that is to blame? Why can't we go back to the old Capitalism, which worked so well until a...
