25th HourWe only have 24 hours a day. What if we had 25? Would we make the day better? Would it change our lives? Would it change at all?
Spike Lee directs here one of his best drama films. To be honest, I was surprised when I found out this was a Spike Lee film, I just didn’t think he could make such a great film. From that day on, I first watch the film, then see who directed it...because you never know what you’re going to get. Here, you get a film deserving every second of your time watching it and embracing it to your life.
Norton plays Monty Brogan, a young man who gets involved with the law after drugs are found in his apartment, but you see it only in the middle of the film. You see the present and understand the situations the characters are in during the film by shown their past here and there. It’s not just so you’ll understand what happens now, it’s in order to show you how things were good before, and how they turned up to be now...it comes to make you angry, sad and empathic for the characters...it is shown this way in order to make you feel the position the characters are in.
Monty is going to jail. He is faing 7 years inside and the film brings his last day as a free man. Just thinking about this situation makes it impossible to ignore. Your heart truly goes out for Monty, no matter what he did. Right or wrong, you accompany him in his last day outside. Meeting with his friends for the last time, hanging out a bit, closing some last deals, you really feel his last day out. Try putting yourself in his shoes while watching the film. You have 24 hours, how does it feel knowing you have 24 hours left to close things up? Knowing these are your last hours out as a free man? Can you feel the bars closing on you any second? That’s how our Monty feels, now he has another day to tell everyone what he feels and go inside with a clean heart.
Spike Lee delivers one of this best films ever. This is a must see. After you watch it, try and think if you really took advantage of your day...after all, who knows what awaits you in the next 24 hours?
