Well, I got this a while ago from fellow LOTT Der Iloz Zoc over at Zombos' Closet of Horrors , and having played it on and off for a while, I felt like now was a good time to review it. Let me start off by saying that I did not finish this game, and in a moment, I will explain why. I did not even come close to finishing it, even though I spent a significant amount of time with the game. This is partly why the review has taken so long, because I wanted to hold off on it until I had actually completed Alone in the Dark. But now I fear that that day will just never happen. Remember, this review is only for the Wii version of the game, so it does not have bearing over any other versions out there. That being said, do not buy this game for your Wii. If you don't have anything besides a Wii, simply skip this game altogether. From what I gathered of the plot, there is some sort of monster attacking New York City, and the main character wakes up to find that he doesn't know who he is after some sort of scientific experiment. He has to run, gun, drive, and blink his way out of NYC with some rather annoying secondary characters, ambiguous mission objectives, and terribly uninterested and satiated zombies. From there, it's a struggle for the viewer to understand, or even care, about the plot, and everything seems bare bones. I am stretched thin for words regarding the gameplay itself. Vocabulary such as "terrible," "makes me suicidal," "I want to throw my nunchuck and Wiimote at the TV," or, "I can't see a thing!" come to mind, although that doesn't really do the game any justice. Breaking it down: The graphics are pretty decent, although much of the in-game detail is difficult to enjoy because of the ever-pervasive darkness throughout the whole game, and while that is the name of the game, YOU CAN'T FUCKING SEE ANYTHING. At one point, I was meandering through a sewer equipped with my gun and my flashlight, and then unknowingly, I fell through a hole in the floor. I landed in a lower level of the sewer, and conveniently, my flashlight went out - which, may I express, doesn't help you see much as it is - and I was stuck using a lighter that allows me to see about 2 feet in front of. Now, I wasn't so much scared of the zombies or monsters that might lurking down there in the darkness. What I was more worried about was wandering around aimlessly in the tunnels, only being able to see the wall in front of me, and realizing that I could not find my way around A VIDEO GAME. Trailer for the game. Looks so cool, doesn't it?! Lies. And that's not the only reason why the game is less than scary. First off, most of the monsters are directly in front of you, and they wander around like they're looking for their lost car keys. The AI is terrible; in fact, most of the zombies will barely even look at you unless you walk right in front of them. Then again, this might have been a reasonable addition to the game, since you'll use up most of the sparse ammo you find shooting at nothing, either thinking that you have to SHOOT OPEN DOORS or just because of the lousy control of the Wiimote. Speaking of lousy controls, I just want to take a look at a few of the CLUSTERFUCKS that the game expects you to overcome. For one thing, getting into your inventory is actually harder than any other gameplay mechanic. I don't know how many times I wanted to open my inventory (which requires the player to take both remotes, put them together, and then rotate them in an "opening-a-bag" motion), only to find that my character puts his gun away, or the flashlight, or both, or just the flashlight, or takes the gun back out again, or puts it away again, or takes the flashlight out again... You get my drift. Too many times, I was stuck with my lighter in my hand, trying to get my gun out and then just saying, "Screw it" to run pell-mell into a horde of zombies. Then, we get to driving. The control setup is simply atrocious, and is probably one of the best examples of, "Just because you have the technology, it does not mean you should actually DO it." I was stuck in the parking garage for an hour just trying to figure out how to actually drive the car around without smashing into barricades. As for running and jumping, it's a chore just to run straight, and although you can choose between 3rd or 1st person cameras, the game stresses that this "choice" is only limited - at some points, you must be in 1st person. Although the 1st person viewpoint does get the player more "into" the game (if you really can get into this game), looking around is tedious, and I think that the 3rd person is better suited for this game, especially on the Wii. Jumping should just have been totally erased from the game's code, as there's no real easy way to do it. You'll find yourself dying because the character does not grab onto ropes at the right time, or maybe you just overshot the other rope because you can't see anything. Something is not right with a game when basic skills cannot be completed, and jumping requires trial and error. At least the game saves your progress after each mini-sequence; I guess the makers felt it was needed because everything is so hit-or-miss that you'd be starting the whole game over again 5 times. There are some really cool ideas that the game presents, though, including applying your own medical care. In the beginning, you are hurt in the abdomen and have to find a medical supply in a run-down building. Not really sure how the 911 operator knew that the first aid kit was there, but I went with it. Once you grab the equipment, you have to find the wound on your body and patch it up. I felt like it was a really cool idea, only it's a really small part of the game and doesn't do much to amp up the action. There's also some bat-like things that come out of the sky and snatch you up in their talons, but it's really annoying when you can't kill them and just have to run for your life, trying to find any buildings to get into that you can't see. There's not much point in exploration, other than finding ammo conveniently placed in sewers and such. Most of the time, you can't see where the items are, so you just have to stumble upon them. Most of the time, I just ran around pressing A all the time, randomly picking things up that I figured I'd need. It's this willy-nilly gameplay, running around blindly, that makes the game feel unfinished and repetitive. I have to admit that some of the sequences were rather cool, like the bats picking up your car, but then again, the action was implemented so poorly that I had to repeat it a couple of times to even understand what I was supposed to be doing. In the end, after understanding that the game was not going to lighten up and that I could not get used to the shitty control scheme, I cursed and flipped a few birds and put the game back on the shelf. I gave it a lot of tries, I really did, and I'm a completionist and not one to quit on a game, but this... this is a game from Hell. Honestly. If you want a completely frustrating and unrewarding experience, and want a game to make you feel retarded, play this game. Otherwise, stay well, well away from the Wii version, at least. Thanks go out to Iloz Zoc
Crysis is an action game for the PC. Well, it’s not just an action game, it’s one of the best action games out. You are a special trooper, part of an elite force sent to Korea and before you know it, you start shooting and bombing everything around you. But the beauty of the game is not shooting Koreans, it’s about the storyline and the graphics of the game.
As you progress, you’ll find there’s more than just Koreans here and things are about to get serious. The video scenes are beautiful and you really feel you’re watching a movie when they’re playing. The graphics is top notch. Everything is planed here, from the trees to the rain, to the beaches and the waves…everything is beautiful. You will find yourself in vast and open areas and the feeling is actually of being there, in the great wild of Korea, the maps are huge and you’ll have plenty of time admiring the view (while shooting your enemies).
You have a special suit so you could use it – Run faster, hit harder, adjust your weapon, everything is included in this fine game. You will be able to drive tanks, jeeps, shoot from them as well, ride with boats, but the best thing is, you will be able (and will have to) to destroy some tanks and choppers yourself in order to survive, and the explosions are huge, both sound and graphics.
Take some time of work and family, close your room and put this game in high volume. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself locked in that room for a few days because this is a very addictive action game, just because it is so fun blasting everything around when the graphics and the sound support each other.
This game is a winner, and playing it is to really enjoy a fine action PC game.
Enjoy! BOOM!
I think there are different gamers for different games. You have the PC gamers, you have the Console gamers and even there they are in groups. The one who play the PlayStation, the Wii and the XBOX 360...and again, the PC gamers. I myself am a PC gamer and now I’ll be talking about the game F.E.A.R
Now, even with the PC gamers there are different gamers because each one plays and prefers his own genere of games. There are the ones who play action games, sports, strategy and more...
F.E.A.R is an action game and a damn good one. At the time its graphics and engine were the hottest thing around and the best thing in action games. Now it may be a standart but it’s still a great game to play.
The storyline is onfusing a bit but that’s good since it allows you to play the game and keep guessing what’s coming up or where you’re progressing. See, if the plot was all clear from the start then it would have been just an action game with nothing to look for, but once you understand little by little as the game progresses, you are more eager to play and find out the story, and this is the case with F.E.A.R
The game is also very scary. There are quiet moments in the game that suddenly break to a paranormal experience or shooting from everywhere and while you jump around in your sit, you have to act quick...play this game with headphones, and it’s a very scary and great experience.
There are sequals to this game so finishing this one will only allow you to continue and play the others which is great.
All in all, I recommend this game to you if you’re an action kind of gamer, because there’s plenty in here...and it’s scary too.
I am a big poker fan. I am playing poker with friends, on-line, tournaments, you name it. I have poker clothing, and now…I even own this PC game.
Poker is a very fun game that involves skill and luck as well. My favorite type is the Texas Holdem and occasionally I play Omaha as well...like a great poker player once said, all you need is a chip and chair and you’re ready to play some cards.
The World Series of Poker is the main event of poker. People from all countries pay their finest money to participate in this great event. Now, Activision brings us this same event but not for a 10,000$ entry fee, but for a bit less and with a whole lot of fun.
This is a great game. Aside from a few glitches here and there with the graphics, you can actually feel you’re in Vegas and other casinos out there playing with the pros themselves. The commentary is nice and funny and everything feels authentic.
The storyline is simple as you create yourself a new player and start the new year of poker, trying to win money and become the world champion in the main event.
There are different type of games you can play as in the real world like playing tournaments and hoping to get into the bubble and win some money as well as earning some points to this poker year, trying to become player of the year. Also, you have the cash games where you play for cash and there the game is different. Only first place wins the money so use your cards wisely. The graphics is great. The players actually look like themselves in real life so the feeling like I said
before is playing against the pros. It’s a good training game as well I think and all in all this is a really fun game with one goal in mind – become the champion and a known poker player. After this, maybe you’ll try your luck against the same pros in real life, who knows…so get your chip and your chair, it’s poker time!
If you’re a die hard fan of sports and football, this game is for you…well, not if you want to actually play and move your players but be their manager, coach and design your own club.
FIFA Manager 09 is another installment of EA Sports management game. It’s actually a great game and you can choose in which areas you want to set foot and control over. You can be only the manager and coach your team, plan their training, go abroad for tournaments and training games. More? You can train the reserves and the youth club as well. More? You can set the prices on the tickets for your football team the way you want them to be, you can sign players and contracts, you can negotiate, loan, expend your facilities and stadium, in this game, you are the god of your own football club.
You’ll have to win titles of-course and set yourself the goals for each season before starting it. You’d like to be favorable among the fans and your director of boards in order to keep your job safe or you’ll have to look for another job soon.
This is a great management game if you’re into football. This is a very addictive game so beware. I remember I had a paper to write for the university so I told myself I’ll play for 2-3 hours and then head back writing my paper. Well…I did sit down for 2-3 hours, only to discover later they had ended quickly and instead of 11 A.M it is now 8 P.M.
Like I said, running and managing a football club is probably one of every third person’s dream, and winning the titles by beating your rivals, there’s nothing more fun than this. I remember shouting so hard every time my team beat the rivals, I knew the club would love it and that’s the feeling with this game, you actually feel you run a club and it feels real enough to blind you there is real life outside.
I recommend this game, just know when to stop…because there is a life out there too…somewhere…now if you’ll excuse me, I have a very important game, my team needs to get ready…
I remember how I was sick of action games and just wanted to take some car for a ride, gain some speed and disappear into the sunset. Well, I got myself the newest in the Need For Speed series and…I was disappointed.
At first, I thought maybe it’s just me, after all it has been a long time since I played a racing game, maybe it will get better and I’d get the hang of it. But not today folks.
The storyline is something copied of a “Fast and the Furious” movie series. You play a racing driver working undercover for the FBI in order to stop some gangs from terrorizing the streets. Sound familiar? So much for originality here.
The graphics is the good side of the game. The cars are well built and the cities look nice, but nothing happens to your car once you smash or hit it. It stays perfect and shiny, yea…I hope reality was this easy too…then I could really get to drive fast.
The sound is the best part of the game, but we don’t want an audio CD here, we want a pc game. There are some cool tracks and it gives a good vibe while racing and driving at high speed or trying to shake off some police cars from your tail.
Once you finish this game you won’t want to play it again. Why for? Just wait for a better racing game or the next Need For Speed game in the series. It has nothing new here that you haven’t seen or played before…so it does not worth your money, unless you have too much of it and you are a big fan of the series…
For conclusion, this game is nothing new on the shelf. It was ok playing with it but after you get the hang of it a little, the missions are just the same over and over and over just on different locations. My advice? Just take your real car and go for a drive, that will be even more exciting than playing this game, just try not to hit it because unlike in this game, real life hurts even more…sad but true.
What happens when a plane flight goes wrong but you’re not dead? Bioshock!
You find yourself at sea, everything around is burning but you’re alive...
Now it’s time to find out where you are and what needs to be done in order to survive.
The grahics of the game is superb! You can actually feel the water on your face as you make your way to land (or a lighthouse in this case), the fire is all real and warm, this is really a beautiful game, designed just the way to deliver it...to your world and to your room!
As you progress in the game, you’ll find out that your plane crash was the least of your worries and that now you are facing in a new world. The lighthouse you swim to in the beginning of the game will have an elevator that will take you down underwater, down to a new world, a city underwater...a whole city!
Still think about your plane crash?
Now it’s time to discover what lies underneath the water and it’s not your baggage or plane. It’s a city set like the 1960’s, a strange city where different experiments took place, a quiet yet scary place at the same time. But just when you think you saw it all, you discover this city is alive...alive with death...ghosts and bizzare people will hunt you and before you can understand what’s around you, you will get tangled in a mystery where you will have some allies and a whole lot of enemies. But don’t get too comfortable because once you think you know your friends, stranger things start to happen but I won’t ruin you the plot.
Besides just walking the streets of this underwater city and killing your enemies with the ordinary weapons, you’ll have to your desposal the ability to splash fire at your enemies, hitting them with a lightning bolt and even change gravity under the feet of your enemies, making them fly away wherever you want. You will have a lot of bonuses and upgrades in your way, use them...it will be more fun and easier to kill your enemies, discovering the mystery around you and who built this city and for what purpose. The plot is interesting and you won’t discover it all just until the end of the game.
You might want to play the game twice, not because it’s so great (and it is) but because it has two various endings so you might want to see them both. This is a game you have to play. This is a new and different atmosphere you’ve ever experienced and the plot is really well written. This action-mystery game is something all gamers must own...above and underneath water.
Fifa 09. The game that gets released annually to mixed reviews. So how did Fifa perform this year in Fifa 09?
One of the biggest improvements and newest features is the mouse control. In Fifa 09, you can use your keyboard AND your mouse to play the game. Using the WASD keys for player control, and the mouse left right buttons for tackling and kicking in the direction of your mouse cursor,it’s possible to direct shots with unparalleled accuracy around the pitch. It’s really easier to direct anticipatory shots towards your team mates so that they run into and with the ball, and not running to the ball. Needless to say, penalty shots have become all the more easy to score. You can have a corner kick any time of the day.
There is a complete Mouse Setup, where you use your mouse to direct where your players will run, on top of using the mouse to kick and tackle and trick. I prefer the KeyBoard + Mouse Setup, which is definitely better at both directing a shot and controlling the player past the defenders. You can\'t do that using only a mouse, because in the mouse mode, your player will run to your mouse, and keep facing the direction of your mouse. Doing a sideways shoot with your mouse is thus rather difficult.
The game also allows you to use your mouse wheel function to draw shapes on screen that correspond to a trick move. A rather nice idea adopted from Nintendo DS. My mouse is ratherclunky, so I can’t really do much except a standard step over. With a better gaming mouse I suspect it'll be easier to execute the more fancier ball tricks.
There’s also a new game-mode: Be a Pro mode. In this mode, instead of playing the team, you control a single player only. You have insane stamina and speed to allow you to run around the field to get the ball, which is a good thing. Otherwise, if you chose a striker, you probably have to stay there and wait for the ball. Your teammates are also more likely to give you the ball in this mode. In online play, you can have 10 v 10 in Be a Pro mode, where everyone is the attention-hogging man of the match; everyone except the goalkeeper.
A special included with the game is the Adidas Live Season, where real-time information from whichever league you chose, be it Barclays, Italia, Coca Cola, is fed into the game database to give you a more realistic scenario of the transfer market in the game and the player stats. This feature’s free for the first year. Subsequently you need to give a fee.Which is just fine, since by next year you have a new Fifa game out already.
On the whole, Fifa 09 does something really unexpected - introduce a whole new level of gameplay for the PC via its mouse controls. The intuitive handling provided by the mouse is so fluid, it's a wonder why soccer games till Fifa 09 have never tried making use of the mouse.Compared to previous lackluster version of Fifa, Fifa 09 really has something going for it. This is a must-have if you'd been the avid collector of EA's Fifa. =)
